Illustrious Brother David Horne 31°, the DC of Swale and Sitis Pro Scientia Chapters, and his wife Lindsay, recently celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary with a trip to Jersey in the Channel Islands, where they were accompanied by some old friends and Brothers along with their wives and partners. The island is beautiful and unique; the weather was extremely kind, the sea was warm and calm, food, wine and beer were plentiful. A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable few days were had by all!
Whilst there, the Bros, namely David Horne, Mick Bremerkamp, Rob Humphrey and Roger Waltham, all of whom are Princes Rose Croix, enjoyed an additional special pleasure, as arrangements had been made for them to attend a meeting of the De Cartertet Chapter Rose Croix no.108, which meets in the stunning Masonic Hall in St Helier.

Following the re-Enthronement of E&P Bro Mirko Monticelli 18° as the Chapter’s Most Wise Sovereign, the Address was given word-perfectly by Illustrious Brother Tim Dallas-Chapman 30°, who just happens to be the PGM and MEGS for the Province of Jersey! That was followed by the presentation by Very Illustrious Brother Simon Richardson 33°, the Inspector General for the Channel Islands, of a Supreme Council Certificate to E&P Bro Harish Patel 18°. An extremely interesting paper was then delivered about the history of de Carteret Chapter, which was consecrated in July 1888, an amazing 137 years ago. The paper was fascinating and included some moving accounts of life for Freemasons in Jersey during the Nazi occupation. The paper was written and delivered by the Prelate of the Chapter, Illustrious Brother David Rosser 32°, a Past PGM and MEGS for the Province of Jersey. Ill Bro Rosser is a published author, well known for his book entitled “…By This Glimmering Ray. An Anthology of Masonic Writings”, a copy of which was generously gifted to Roger Waltham for him to pass on in due course to the Kent Masonic Museum & Library in Canterbury.
Following the meeting everyone adjourned to the bar for refreshments which, with the temperature being over thirty degrees on the day, were very well received indeed! Then into the dining room for a delicious three-course meal.
The Ritual during the meeting was splendid, the Fellowship and warmth of welcome throughout the whole evening was stupendous, and the Food at the dining table was scrumptious. Three out of three without doubt for East Kent’s mantra of: Good Ritual, Good Fellowship, and Good Food!
What a superb evening for the intrepid East Kent nomads, for sure!
