Our Provincial Grand Master is now a Sovereign

At a very well attended meeting of the Cornwallis Chapter 444 in Gravesend on 31st January, the Provincial Grand Master for East Kent, E&P Bro. Neil Hamilton Johnstone 18°, was most ably enthroned for the first time as a Most Wise Sovereign by E&P Bro. David Kershaw 18°.

An atmosphere of quiet anticipation pervaded as the many guests and visitors joined the members of Cornwallis Chapter and took their seats for the meeting. The ceremony of Enthronement was performed to a very high standard by E&P Bro. David Kershaw, the former Deputy MEGS for East Kent, in his customary style. It was suggested that the ever-watchful Director of Ceremonies, Ill. Bro. Andrew Fermor 30°, may have recognized some of the rich tapestry of ritual that was delivered. Others, of a more discerning eye, were not so sure!

An underlying calm was restored when the new Most Wise Sovereign took charge of the proceedings and invested the officers of the Chapter which, indicative of the raison d’être of Cornwallis Chapter, included the appointments of E&P Bro. Peter Rhodes, a past Warden of East Kent as 1st General and E&P Bro. Paul Christopher, a past Warden of West Kent, as 2nd General.

In a packed room, The MWS led the 3rd Point with due dignity and aplomb before closing the Chapter and then afterwards joining the many well-wishers for a delightful dinner and plenty of convivial company. This rather special occasion was greatly enjoyed by all those present, including the new MWS, who may seek to visit other Chapters around the District of East Kent in his occasional spare moments!
