May is twice as nice at Hubert De Burgh

On the hottest day in May (ever!) a large number of Brethren assembled at the Hubert De Burgh Chapter in Dover to witness a double Perfection by the new Most Wise Sovereign and his team of dedicated officers.

The well-known faces of Bros. Sam Watson and Bob Duffy were looking forward to the ceremony of Perfection into our lovely Order. Both had been previously informed of the many virtues and dignity of the Ritual. They would not be disappointed.

The Chapter was opened by MWS, Graham Chisnell 18°, who welcomed the 38 members and visitors present, particularly the presence of the District Recorder, Ill. Bro Trevor Youens 31°. The subsequent ballot proved in favour of both Perfectees. This was naturally a relief for the Recorder and the Director of Ceremonies but not so much for those who were enjoying the Mallorca-like temperature inside the Temple!

The Intermediate Degrees were conferred in an exemplary manner by 2nd General, James Burchell 18°. The First Point, as ever, was delivered by Ill. Bro Charles Pottle 31°. The MWS, ably assisted by his officers, conducted the Second Point with great meaning and sincerity. The Emblems and Signs were communicated by 1st General, Ian Gilmour 18° in similar fashion. The entire Hubert De Burgh team can be rightly proud of their high standard of ritual, which is so important to the enjoyment and understanding of our newest Perfectees.

After the fraternal affection of the Third Point, the Chapter was closed and everyone made the welcome journey to the (noticeably fresher) bar for much-needed liquid rehydration. It was clear whilst enjoying the lovely meal that both newly Perfected E&P Princes, Sam and Bob, had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Their expectations had not been misplaced. We wish them many happy years ahead. For Hubert De Burgh, our next meetings in September and November will both be Perfections. We look forward to welcoming them to the Ancient & Accepted Rite. Hopefully it will be a little cooler!
